Vacation Vibes: How to Take travel Photos That Don’t Suck 😎
Hey there, fellow wanderluster!
We’ve all been there—standing in front of an incredible monument, beach, or mountain, only to end up with photos that look, well… kinda basic. Or worse: you look like a confused tourist who just stumbled into the frame. 😅
Well, worry no more! I’m sharing my favorite fun and easy travel photography tips and poses so you can bring home pics that are actually Instagram-worthy (or at least grandma-approved).
Tip 1: Rule of Thirds – But Make It Causal
You don’t need to be a pro to frame a great shot. Just turn on the grid setting on your phone camera. Place your subject (that’s you or your bestie) off to the side, not smack in the middle.
Instant artsy vibes! 🎨
🙆 Poses That Don’t Look Like You’re Posing
-
The “I’m So surprised This Waterfall Is Here” Pose:
Look away from the camera, slight smile, maybe point at something in the distance. It says, “I’m living in the moment… and also I have great posture.” -
The Walk-and-Laugh:
Have someone take a burst shot while you walk and laugh. It looks natural, candid, and like you’re having the time of your life (which you are!). -
Sit Down, Look Up:
Sit on stairs, a wall, or the ground, and glance up at the camera. It’s casual, relaxed, and saves you from the classic “stand-still-like-a-statue” shot.
📐 Change Your Angle – Go Low or Go High
Don’t just shoot from eye level.
-
Get down low to make waterfalls, streets, or flowers look more dramatic.
-
Shoot from above for cute café photos, food flat lays, or if you’re lying on the grass.
-
Tilt your phone slightly for a fun Dutch angle. Everything looks cooler slightly sideways. No logic, just vibes.
😎 Use Props – Tell a Mini Story
Sipping coffee? Hold the cup like it’s the best one you’ve ever had.
Reading a map? Pretend you know what you’re doing (even if you’re lost).
Wearing a hat? Play with it! Props add context and make photos feel real.
Golden Hour Is Your Best Friend
The hour after sunrise and before sunset = MAGIC. The light is soft, warm, and makes everyone look like they have a built-in filter. Night photos are fun too, but golden hour? Always a win.
🚶 Capture Motion
Let the world move around you!
-
Slow shutter waterfalls or traffic trails? Fancy.
-
You spinning, hair flying, on a beach? Even better.
👯 Group Photos That Actually Include Everyone
No more awkward “everyone line up” shots.
-
Have some people sitting, some standing.
-
Get close, hug, pile on each other—it should look fun, not like a corporate team building exercise.
Frame Within a Frame
Use windows, arches, tree branches, or even your own hands to frame the shot. It draws the eye right to the subject and makes the photo feel intentional.
✨ Finally… Put the Camera Down Sometimes
Yeah, I said it. Don’t spend your whole trip behind a lens.
Take a breath, soak it in, and maybe just… remember the moment. Then take a selfie. 😜
There you have it! No PhD in photography required. Just a little creativity, a willingness to look silly, and maybe a patient friend who won’t complain after taking 237 versions of the same photo. 😂
Now go out there and make some memories—and some great photos!
Happy travels and even happier snapping! 📍❤️
